Updates & Local News

Good morning,

As my regular followers know, I always have the best intentions to post regularly on this blog. Unfortunately, I’m usually juggling several projects at a time and I tend to put off making new posts. So, basically, my little blog gets neglected for weeks (months?) at a time. Oops!

It’ll just be a quick post today:

florence festival of books

I wanted to remind everyone that the annual Florence Festival of Books is this Saturday (September 28th) from 10 am until 4 pm at the Florence Events Center. It’s a great event and I enjoy attending each year. There’s always a good mix of authors and publishers with tables set up, and every year the event gets a little bit bigger. If I remember right, they’re expecting at least 70 authors to be in attendance this year.

So, if you’ll be on the Oregon this weekend, please check it out!

A little local news– as you’re probably already aware, I’m fascinated by maritime history and ships. I spotted an article in our local newspaper, The World, this morning. A fishing vessel ran into trouble early yesterday morning. Fortunately, the Coast Guard was able to rescue the two person crew, but the boat was not salvageable.

As someone that has spent a great deal of time researching local shipwrecks and maritime accidents, I am incredibly thankful for our local Coast Guard station and the work that they do. They have saved a lot of lives over the years!
